This event has ended.

Christine Hiebert, Jill O’Bryan, and Allyson Strafella, three artists who create works on paper come together to bring light and spaciousness into the rooms of Margarete Roeder’s gallery in celebration of her friendship and legacy as a force in the art world. The exhibition was conceived to honor and support Margarete as her life was drawing to a close in Germany, now with sadness and fondness we redirect our focus as a tribute.

During the decades-long run of Margarete Roeder Gallery, Margarete exhibited works by established, mid-career, and emerging American and European artists in all media, with a particular emphasis on drawings and prints. Other areas of specialization include installations, minimal and conceptual works, and contemporary abstract German artists. The gallery also represented the Estates of John Cage and Merce Cunningham.

Christine Hiebert draws. She believes that a thing or an idea in the world might be understood by looking closely at its movement, however slow. And that making a drawing is to be fully alive outside of the mind. Hiebert is based in Brooklyn, NY, working periodically in wilder parts of the country. Christine has worked with Margarete Roeder Gallery since 2004.
Jill O’Bryan splits her time between New York City and wide-open desert in New Mexico. She maps resonances created during dynamic and meditative interactions with elements of nature: Breath Drawings made during breathing meditations; Breathing into the Moon paintings imagined while meditating in moonlight; large graphite rubbings of land, Desert Frottages; and for the Element Paintings she is guided by Buddhist color iconography: blue/sky, yellow/earth, green/water, and red/fire. Jill has worked with Margarete Roeder Gallery since 2016.
Allyson Strafella lives in Hudson, New York. She loves the quietness of drawing.
