Mikel Rouse "False Doors(A Family Album)"
Margarete Roeder Gallery
This event has ended.
Beginning as a child and continuing school and beyond, Rouse carried notebook, often hand made, on his travels. Demonstrating the full range of his multifaceted artistic practice the notebook serve as both record and inspiration. Replete with collages, sketches, drawings, cartoons, scores, storyboards, and notes, these books attest to Rouse as artist, composer, musician, film maker, and director.
Employing media as varied as its subject and intent, the early collage books gave way to turpentine transfer technique, which in turn developed into the more resent transfers made without solvents, pencil sketches and water colors. The notebooks moved away from being a diaristic mnemonic and came into being as independent artwork in their own right.
