This event has ended.

Following our successful solo-presentation of Jeff Grant in Brussels we are excited to be opening his onsite installation on the 3rd floor titled Attic Syllabus. This will be the second installment in our project space on the third floor of the building, a federalist style building.

Grant’s Attic syllabus is a mixed media installation that incorporates paper, light, collage, and various found objects. Diminutive toy animals circle under a low-hung lamp. Others follow black rubber tubes and cord that twist and curve along the floor of the attic space, forming long, linear paths. On the wall, a collage object incorporating a blue trash bag and a cut out bookplate of Bosch’s The Creation as imagined in The Garden Of Earthly Delights depicts a partly formed world adrift.

In Attic syllabus, Grant considers how history and memory contribute to the creative process of combining various elements into something recognizable, understandable, or relatable. He focuses on how, in his words:

Preexisting ideas contribute to our observations of facts. At times these ideas enrich our understanding, but at times they misguide or conflict with our observations. I am interested in our presumptions about learning, and about forms of personal and social development. I question our dubious notion of maturity. - Jeff Grant
