“If it is the love of that which your work represents - of being a landscape painter, it is love of hills and trees that moves you…Then this spirit is upon you, and the Earth is yours, as the fullness, thereof.” John Ruskin, 1922

Our Beautiful and evocative Landscape exhibit features seven quite accomplished artists:

Mariella Bisson
“My lifelong obsession with painting was fostered by our local library, which included a remarkable world-class collection of Hudson River paintings - including Bierdstadt’s largest work, and landscapes by Thomas Cole, Sanford Gifford and Asher Durand. I use landscape elements of rock, forest and water to explore themes of time, light, gravity, change and constancy.”

Jackie Boudreau Kinsey
Jackies paintings display an internal response to the landscape. The study of light on the land and the poetry that is revealed both inform and inspire her work.

Donna Levinstone
“My pastel landscapes concern themselves more with a spirit of place than an actual place, and explore the relationships between tranquility and volatility, the ethereal and the earthly, light and dark, night and day.”

John Schmidtberger
“I look for subjects that I find really compelling. I want something that knocks me over-something I can’t resist. My job is to transfer that visual experience to the canvas. I want the viewer to feel that same level of energy and excitement.”

Valerie Mendelson
“My paintings are a direct, plein air, painterly approach based on relationships of hue, intensity and value. The abstract rhythms within the composition, reveal themselves in the process of painting”

Mary Powers Holt
Recent paintings are absorbed with the visual and emotional impact of the landscape.
“My focus is on recording the abstract patterns of light and color.”

Charles Basman
His paintings are beautifully pastoral and peaceful reflections on nature. Charles studied at the Hudson River School workshop, Art Students League, School of Visual Arts and the National Academy of Design.
