This event has ended.

In her paintings, Ellen Uzane Schneiderman combines different uses of paint to produce colorful abstract compositions.

She explores effects of fusing watercolor, ink, acrylic and gouache, and gives rise to flowing landscapes and cosmologies. Pictorial depth is provoked through a continued coating of paint. With each layer, she generates a further shade. Veils of smeared paint obscure and uncover the underlying patterns and structures. She employs washes of both opaque and translucent tones and allows chance to determine shapes. The random dissemination of paint counters her deliberate gestures, which emerge as geometric currents, organic grids and blobby structures.

Schneiderman's paintings are thoroughly abstract articulations of themes, or "reflective spaces" that trigger meditation. Each embodies a particular mood, to which the viewer can connect. The dialogues between color and structure shape a particular atmosphere that to her, approach the "impenetrable, mysterious, and wondrous".

Ellen Uzane Schneiderman was born in 1982 in Los Angeles and holds a BA cum laude in Visual Art from Brown University, Rhode Island. There, she received the Gilbert Stuart Award in 2003 and 2005, as well as the Roberta Joslin Award for Excellence in Art in 2005. Part of her education as a painter took place at the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Pont Aven School of Art in France. Her artwork has been shown in numerous solo shows in Providence, Rhode Island and Long Island City, New York. In 2011, the Jeffrey Leder Gallery included six of her works in the successful group show "Made in Long Island City".
