Galerie Lelong opened to the public in New York in 1985, and in 2001, the gallery moved to its present ground floor location in Chelsea. In last 20 years, the gallery has presented exhibitions by seminal artists of our time with a focus on the primary representation of important contemporary artists from the United States, Europe, and Latin America who work in sculpture, painting, photography and new media.

It also represents the Estate of Ana Mendieta and the Estate of Hélio Oiticica. Galerie Lelong also works closely with museums and public institutions to support the placement of permanent commissions and exhibitions and is active in the production of publications by its artists.
