Esso Gallery was founded in 1966 in a loft on the top floor of a commercial building at 191 Chrystie Street in Lower East Side of Manhattan, East of Soho, hence esso. Esso gallery was established with the purpose of exhibition international emerging and under-exposed contemporary artists of all ages. In the year 2003, the gallery has relocated to the present address.
