Allen Sheppard Gallery
Gallery in The Chelsea 25th area
The Allen Sheppard Gallery was established in 1993 as a home and program for emerging artists who are primarily interested in representational art -- painting, drawing and photography. Its founder, Allen Sheppard, an avid collector, committed to the goal of finding works of art that moved the viewer without the requirement of intellectual rationale to validate the work. An intriguing visual engagement or a visceral response of delight were the only prerequisites for selecting works for the gallery. Although this goal remains in place today the gallery has eagerly experimented in many art forms including non-traditional sculpture and installations. But exploring, witnessing the endless mysteries of painting and its profound rewards remain the central focus of the gallery’s mission. Many of the artists of the Allen Sheppard Gallery are placed in private and Museum collections worldwide.
