“Tabak’s work asks the viewer to pay close attention, to enjoy the delicate detail and grandeur while recognizing the ephemeral, to readjust our perspective - to remember a higher pursuit.”

— Kat Chamberlin, A Perspective Warp

Superhouse presents this culmination of nearly a year of work for the artist. Each piece is an exploration of perspective and a meditation on material subversion, asking viewers to see differently.

The Rhode Island School of Design graduate Shaina Tabak grew up between Long Island and New York City, finding inspiration in the intersection of natural and built environments. Influenced by unique architectural landscapes and the way materials are utilized within them, Tabak explores the relationship between form and function. In her studio, Tabak follows a process that allows the designs of her pieces to dictate their functions, while also subverting particular materials from their common uses. The artist’s early training in painting and drawing influences her work, with themes of flatness and linework often graphically informing her 3-dimensional sculpture. Tabak has exhibited with International Objects (Brooklyn, NY), IRL Gallery (New York, NY), Lubov (New York, NY), and Superhouse (New York, NY) and her work forms part of a number of important private collections. The artist has been featured in several publications including Curbed, Dezeen, Milk Decoration, Interior Design, Sight Unseen, and The New York Times. Tabak lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
