This event has ended.

This eight-foot-long structure on stilts built entirely of wood, mainly sourced from the cut-offs of local cabinet makers or recycled pieces of older projects is the artist’s ode to these past few years and to the dining sheds that have become of the emblems of the Covid pandemic.
Feinstein, like most, seldom left her home or neighborhood during the pandemic. She appreciated these odd and makeshift structures springing up on the streets of New York, and was fascinated by their raw materials, immediacy, and transparent construction. The interchangeable interior and exterior transformedthe cityscape. Built to sustain commerce and to protect diners from contagion, the sheds exposed our vulnerability as well as our resilience and determination to gather, share, and to create.

Emily Feinstein received her M.F.A. at Milton Avery School of the Arts, Bard College. She has built installations at Socrates Sculpture Park, Katonah Museum, Islip Art Museum, Long Island University, The Brooklyn Public Library and Governors Island. She is currently showing her work Wood Drawings and Configurations at 490 Atlantic Gallery in Brooklyn.
