Jonathan Yukio Clark “Sakura in Volcanic Landscape”
Miyako Yoshinaga
This event has ended.
Hawaii-born Jonathan Yukio Clark’s multi-disciplinary practice ranges from printmaking to sculpture, drawing, and textiles. This new exhibition focuses on the intercorrelation of distant landscapes threaded through a personal lens of family history and relationship to place. Monotype prints of volcanic mountainscapes from Japan and Hawaii take the form of wall-mounted panoramas and vignettes embedded into wooden sculptures that evoke the artist’s relationship to his grandparents and the nuanced features of their home. In the space of the Near and Distant is Clark’s first presentation at our gallery.
