Dominic Chambers “Soft Shadows”

Tomorrow, our first solo show with New Haven-based artist Dominic Chambers opens in New York. This series of four paintings references the therapeutic practice of shadow work, wherein each work portrays a different imagined event in which Chambers summons what he calls his “shadow self.” The compositions, both figurative and landscape, reflect and reexamine the internal, psychological processes of identity formation and ask an open question: Can you paint yourself into coherence?

The works in Soft Shadows represent the most recent developments in the artist’s practice and continue his rigorous exploration of color, light, and shadow through the use of a unique amalgamation of unconventional approaches and traditional painting techniques.
