This event has ended.

Gladstone Gallery presents new works by Sharon Lockhart. For this exhibition, Lockhart will present a new film installation, photography, paintings, and sculpture, which will be complemented by an online viewing room throughout the show’s run. The exhibition’s centerpiece is Lockhart’s film EVENTIDE, a 30-minute single take filmed as dusk turned to night during the annual Perseid meteor shower, which makes its premiere for this show.

Additionally, a new series that oscillate, materially and conceptually, between photography and painting elegantly gives physical form to the visual experience of darkness. Like the night sky, these dark blue constructions of dye and cyanotype photographic emulsion nearly read as black monochromes. In the final room, Lockhart expands a series of odes in both sculptural and photographic mediums with works that honor the late artist Mike Kelley, a mentor, on the 10th anniversary of his death. The presentation offers a meditation on several dualities present throughout the exhibition: realism and aestheticization, craftsmanship and industrial production, containment and boundlessness, control and entropy, light and darkness, life and death.
