This event has ended.

Ortuzar Projects presents Once Upon A Time: Paintings, 1981–2015, the first solo exhibition of artist Joey Terrill in New York in forty years. A second-generation Los Angeles native active in the nascent Chicano Power and Gay Liberation movements since the early-1970s, Terrill has critiqued Chicanismo and explored its cultural relationship to homosexuality over four decades—in paintings, drawings, zines and collage. Once Upon a Time presents Terrill’s earliest canvases, which reference Mexican retablos, Pop art, fotonovelas, and comics, alongside more recent paintings influenced by photorealism and Conceptual art.
