Jacqueline de Jong’s first solo show of paintings and drawings in New York in fifty years, Border-Line features works from her latest series of the same name. All made since the beginning of the pandemic lockdown, the works take as their subject matter the refugee crises that have unfolded in the era of mass-globalization. Mixing naturalistic forms with skeletal, animalistic, or entirely non-representational figures, de Jong’s works invoke the trauma of dispossession, and the political powerlessness felt by the viewer-as-voyeur.
