This event has ended.

Dubuffet/Chamberlain brings together a selection of work by two canonical twentieth-century artists: three sculptures by the American sculptor John Chamberlain (1927-2011) and five late paintings by the French artist Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985).

The works by Dubuffet were created in the final decade of his life: a time in which the artist’s painting practice became increasingly expressionistic and abstract in nature, while the pedestal and floor sculptures by Chamberlain, crafted in painted and chromed steel, illustrate the formal diversity across his sculpture practice.

Defined by their vibrant colour and innovative approach to figure and form, the works in the exhibition highlight the shared concerns and contrasting approaches between two successive generations of post-war art.
