Carl Skelton “ISOLUX / Four Animals”
Josee Bienvenu Gallery
This event has ended.
Josée Bienvenu Gallery presents ISOLUX, a video projection by Carl Skelton. As part of an ongoing project of “re-animation” of the original Isotype icon library of the 1920’s, Carl Skelton offers four new projections for the street-facing windows of the gallery, developed from one of Isotype’s larger sub-groups: animals.
The new works will be projected with ISOLUX projectors, designed and built by the artist with durable and/or easily replaceable/upgrade-able electronics, light sources, and optics, to provide for works that are consistently durable, and effectively archival.
Carl Skelton, Dr.-Ing. experiments and builds projects at the intersection of art, technology, and public space. His oeuvre spans from public sculpture (Still Life, 2006, facing highway 401 in Toronto) and installation (Real City, 2011, on the Manhattan Bridge Colonnade) to massively participatory urban art-design-planning tools (Betaville). Dr. Skelton currently serves as President of the Gotham Innovation Greenhouse in New York City, a new kind of public interest oriented “Think Studio”, and Director of the Centre for City Ecologies in Toronto.
