This event has ended.

The Elizabeth Harris Gallery presents an exhibition titled sueños y recuerdos (dreams and memories) by Bill Weiss.
This exhibition will be his eighth with the gallery.

In a statement about his upcoming exhibition the artist writes:
“Sueños y Recuerdos” (“Dreams and Memories”) 2020

The exhibit consists of two distinct groups of paintings. The group of ten smaller paintings was made in 2019 at my Canal Street studio in NYC. The group of larger paintings was made this year in Los Osos, California during the pandemic.

The title “Dreams and Memories” refers to the source of the images that I utilized in the paintings. In the smaller paintings the subject is an imagined or remembered landscape. In the larger paintings the effort is to generate abstract, non-referential imagery.

The oval shape of the paintings functions as a generative motif.

Bill Weiss was born in Irvington, NJ and grew up in Los Angeles. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in Biological Sciences. After college he traveled extensively throughout Europe for the purpose of studying western art. During that trip he began to draw and to consider devoting his time to painting. Weiss is an autodidact in that he never attended an art college. His art is informed by a study of philosophy with an emphasis on Eastern religious philosophy, specifically Zen Buddhism and Taoism. Weiss moved to New York in 1989 for the purpose of deepening his knowledge of contemporary art and to create paintings from within the New York cultural community. He currently lives in Brooklyn and has studios in Manhattan and Los Osos, California.

The Gallery is located at 529 W20th Street, 6th floor and is open
