This event has ended.

In Migrants Roulette Regina Araujo Corritore works with the ideas of gaming and migration - ageless topics. She looks at the historic movements of people, and how such movements across borders have become illegal. People have always been drawn to these travels in hope of reversing their fortunes. A turn of the migrants’ karmic wheel often means loss of family or death.

Using the archetypes from the Mexican game of “Loteria” Ms. Corritore invites the viewer to participate in the reversal of fortune the game of roulette invariably implies. A silk screen suite of prints on vinyl stickers depict the heroes of the Americas both North and South. These political stickers are the prizes awarded to the winners.

Ms. Corritore examines the relationships between play and struggle, games and work, change and destiny. The palette of her work shifts between terra cotta earth and cerulean blue sky. By using the visual iconography of the 19th and 20th centuries, she combines her images with a postmodern use of the past and the present.
