The Painting Center presents Alix Bailey: Recent Paintings and Alyce Gottesman: Rangadravya in the Main Gallery and Project Room.
Alix Bailey’s recent paintings feature mostly large figure paintings. These works are a departure from Bailey’s last show of small heads and self-portraits at The Painting Center. This newer work is inspired, in part, by a move to a new studio in her Manhattan apartment where the diffused natural light and marble mantle have become an essential part of her current motif. Still propelled by the thrill of the process of working closely from life, she has become increasingly interested in finding a balance between what is invented in response to direct observation and what is invented on the canvas. Alix Bailey has shown her work in New York City, Connecticut and Italy.

Alyce Gottesman’s exhibition, Rangadravya in the Main Gallery and Project Room. Alyce Gottesman continues her ongoing examination of organic abstraction with a process-driven approach to her painting. With a variety of surfaces and materials, she explores and experiments with swirling paint, gestural lines and color inspired by her time in India. Her work has been exhibited extensively in the NY metro area and is in many private, public and corporate collections. She is a recipient of a New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship, a Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation Fellowship and was awarded a residency at Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Recent exhibitions include Carter Burden Gallery, Kent State University, Drawing Rooms, Veronique Wantz Gallery and others.
