This event has ended.

WhiteBox presents 4.5.0., a new solo interdisciplinary exhibition of works by Ukrainian artist Zinaïda Kubar, known as Zinaïda. Her first US solo exhibition, 4.5.0., focuses on images and myths that surround women’s issues and female identity by drawing inspiration from Ukraine’s culture, heritage, and historic symbols to confront our present moment. The title “4.5.0.” holds deep meaning as a code originally used by the Ukrainian military which translates to “everything is ok, everything is at peace.”

Originated from war, the code 4.5.0. now has been adopted by Ukrainian army veterans and transformed into a powerful wish for everyday’s “peace and harmony.” As a creator, Zinaïda is a woman of the day whose art epitomizes Ukraine’s new search for a unifying, contemporary identity. The exhibition will be accompanied by an Artist’s Talk and ARTREHUB, a therapeutic healing session designed for weary front line combatants back home, reenacted with American G.I.s, recent war veterans. In a moment of acute global conflicts, WhiteBox welcomes this principled, heartrending project as an intrinsic part of its ongoing latitudinal art programming subscribing to Arthur Danto’s dictum, “if a work of art has social consciousness or exhumes the political, it better be beautiful”.
