Kentler International Drawing Space presents Drawn Towards, an exhibition of new drawings by London-based artist Diogo Pimentão.

Pimentão uses uses performative drawing methods to create site-specific, minimalist works of graphite on paper. His works exist in human scale, exploring the physical relationships between art, audience and exhibition space. Pimentão references contemporary dance in his performances and the concept of ritual is intrinsic to his creative process. His rigid and polished three-dimensional pieces sometimes comprise residual materials from previous works that have been revived by the artist’s hand. In this way they seem to take on a life of their own.

Pimentão uses graphite and paper in experimental and unexpected ways. Generated by gestures such as tracing, folding, scratching, hitting and brushing, his works often appear deceptively weighty despite their material fragility. Their geometric austerity exists in concert with their dynamism.
