This event has ended.

Ed. Varie present Fotocopy, a special exhibition of 18 American and International cult jewelers and artists.

In today’s world of aesthetic URL personas, image saturation and sleeper-cell trends, a “new idea” has now become a fresher mash-up of two or more things you’ve seen before. Copy, make new, copy again to infinity. Finding the sweet spot between uniqueness and belonging is a pressurized, nihilistic pursuit. But that doesn’t stop us. When we get it right, it feels good, although at times, maybe all too fleetingly. FOTOCOPY makes the case for allowing that feeling to last. Jewelry, refreshing and familiar, embodies where we think we belong, capturing identity and realness, and our ever-shifting understanding of who we are.

FOTOCOPY is an artist-run exhibition that first debuted at Munich Jewelry Week 2018, DOING THE NO NO, supported by Current Obsession. NYC Jewelry Week is the first and only local week dedicated to promoting and celebrating the world of jewelry through educational and innovative focused programming. In its inaugural year, November 12-18, NYCJW will feature 90 events city-wide, including groundbreaking exhibitions, educational lectures, explorative workshops, exclusive tours, and unique collaborations lead by the best and brightest businesses, brands, jewelers, artists, and museums. From the glamorous heritage houses of Fifth Avenue to the diamond dealers of 47th Street, to Brooklyn’s new art-jewelry scene and into private estate collections, NYCJW offers an inside look into the multifaceted industry that makes the city sparkle.

ADAM GRINOVICH, Lock Charm Ring

During this 10 day special engagement, FOTOCOPY, will be an exploration of the process of a copy on a copy on a copy, while making zines and selling limited edition jewelry. The New York edition of FOTOCOPY has been curated by Kellie Riggs and Ashley K Wahba, with a shout-out to Adam Grinovich for leading with the project’s first season.
