This event has ended.

This collaboration between Precious Okoyomon and Hannah Black presents a process of digestion, shitting out, decaying and rebirthing, seeking human-like if not reliably human assistance through playful figuration: teddies, dolls, and creatures both cooked and raw.

I Need Help comprises a disintegrating iteration of Black’s recent solo show at the Chisenhale Gallery in London, Some Context, with works by Okoyomon made in response.

Some Context included 20000 copies of a book called The Situation, made up of transcribed conversations, and “transitional objects”, teddies stuffed with shredded copies. I Need Help is a falling-apart repetition partly consisting of a portion of the remaining books. Black’s attempt to collectively process a moment in time comes into relation with and is re-digested through Okoyomon’s work.

I Need Help gestures toward a politics or aesthetics based on the underlying and frankly disgusting processes of rot and collapse that have produced the dirt from which everything grows.
