This event has ended.

Arsenal Contemporary is partnering with the Edythe and Eli Broad Museum for an upcoming exhibition.

The two-part show will feature works by Canadian painter Kim Dorland, curated by French sculptor Jean-Michel Othoniel, alongside a 29-minute video work by artist Robin Meier, presented by curator Jean-Michel Othoniel (Director of the Broad Museum at MSU and former Director of the Swiss Institute and Palais de Tokyo).

Kim Dorland is known for his impasto paintings featuring subject matter from his impoverished upbringing. Arsenal Contemporary will be presenting 12 new works of wooded landscapes of forests scrawled with graffiti— and phrases such as “fuck love”— meant to evoke viewer’s emotional response to nature as a public dumping ground.

In the back room, Robin Meier’s video installation of fireflies patterned with LED lights will play on this topic by questioning defined roles of human intervention in natural environments.

This exhibition is part of the gallery’s mission to promoting dialogues between Canadian artists and their international contemporaries as well as an extension of Arsenal Contemporary’s ongoing commitment to institutional collaborations.
