This event has ended.
Bowery Gallery presents an exhibition of landscapes by Tony Serio, whose latest paintings focus on nature in the urban setting. These works, with their exceptionally rich darks, reflect the artist’s recent trip to Madrid, where he spent many hours studying Spanish masters in the Prado Museum.
Among the exhibition’s highlights are a luminous night-time scene of the George Washington Bridge, illuminated by dozens of lights, and a view of Fort Tryon Park, deftly carved into lit and shadowed zones with palette-knife strokes.
Reviewing Serio’s previous show at Bowery, John Goodrich described how the landscapes “revel in leaps of space.…As with Bonnard, shifts of space and scale reveal not just topography, but also the character of the objects within.”
There will be an artist’s reception 3-6pm on Saturday, December 1.
