This event has ended.

Kentler International Drawing Space presents Patterning: Selections from the Kentler Flatfiles, curated by Samantha Friedman, Assistant Curator in the Department of Drawings and Prints, The Museum of Modern Art.

Featuring approximately forty works by eight artists, this exhibition explores the persistence of pattern in contemporary drawing. The diverse selection of works reflects the influence of nature and mathematics, calligraphy and technology. Using materials both mundane and ephemeral, opulent and ornate, these artists build compositions that range from the reductive to the baroque, proving in the process that pattern often has a purpose.

The Kentler Flatfiles, a collection of 2,000 works on paper by over 250 artists, has been an essential element of the gallery since its founding in 1990. The Flatfiles are regularly featured in guest-curated exhibitions as well as traveling shows, and are an important resource for artists, curators, scholars, collectors, and all those interested in the field of drawing. The collection is available to the public for viewing by appointment and is cataloged in the Kentler Flatfiles Digital Archive on our website: www.kentlergallery.org.
