This event has ended.

Kentler International Drawing Space presents Cornucopia, a solo exhibition of new drawings by artist Nancy Friedemann-Sánchez.

Nancy Friedemann-Sánchez was born in Colombia and migrated to the United States as a young adult. A rich cultural dialog runs through her work, mixing traditional Spanish and Native Colombian iconography with modern American sensibilities. Inspired also by Minimalism and the Pattern and Decoration movement, her large-scale drawings explore themes of cultural memory and identity alongside broader issues of colonialism, class-consciousness and gender politics.

The works featured in Cornucopia are unexpectedly and intriguingly complex. Using luminous inks on black Tyvek, Friedemann-Sánchez creates highly detailed scenes on a monumental scale. Her compositions, including opulent floral arrangements and ghostly figures, recall familiar Spanish and indigenous subjects with subtle, quirky flourishes - tiny humans, animals, and domestic objects appear throughout. Heirloom combs and masks incorporated into the two-dimensional works emphasize their dual historical and political significance.

A brochure with an essay by Susan Silas accompanies the exhibition.
