poster for Bäst Exhibition

This event has ended.

The artist has been working on this impassioned developing body of work for the last five years, manifesting a visible sense of freedom and the ensuing joy that freedom brings. While the paintings, collages, and sculptures on display remain true to the artist’s signature tone, with hints of figuratism and Bäst’s use of repurposed materials, they also show a progression towards Abstract Expressionism.

At the beginning of his career, Bäst mastered the art of screen-printing. He made a name for himself by covering the streets with these silkscreen wheat-paste collages. Now he uses techniques that he taught himself to make assemblages, and applies them to making conceptual sculptures. These pieces, filled with texture and motion, were inspired by, and mirror his paintings. The repurposed materials seen in much of his work include, but are not limited to, book covers, driftwood, scrap metal, and fabric.

Bäst has received critical acclaim for “Deluxx Fluxx Arcade”— an interactive collaborative installation with the Brooklyn-based artist duo FAILE. The exhibition was shown at the Brooklyn Museum in New York, in London, UK, in Miami Beach, Florida during Art Basel and in Edinburgh at the Summerhall Museum in Scotland, UK.

Bäst also teamed up with Patrick McNeil from FAILE for the Wynwood Kitchen & Bar patio wall in Miami Beach. Some of the other Wynwood Wall artists include the prominent Kenny Scharf, OS Gemeos, Futura, Ron English, Shepard Fairey, and more.
Bäst is also known for his multiple fashion collaborations with Marc Jacobs and Agnès b.
