As a life-long New Yorker, Marilyn Henrion’s aesthetic vision has always been deeply rooted in the urban geometry of her surroundings. “Patchwork City” captures the energy and vitality of the ever-changing urban landscape in a compelling series of linen collages. Henrion has been referred to as”the consummate New York artist” by journalist Ed Wetschler of Recommend Magazine .
A graduate of Cooper Union, Marilyn Henrion, who is represented in the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Art in Washington DC, has had over twenty solo exhibitions. Her award-winning artworks have been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide. They are in major museum, corporate, and private collections, including the Museum of Arts & Design, NYC; the Racine Art Museum, Racine, WI; the Newark Museum, Newark, NJ; the Central Museum of Textiles, Lodz, Poland; the U.S. Embassy in Nom Penh, Cambodia, among others. Among the grants Henrion has received was one awarded by the ArtsLink Partnership devoted to fostering excellence in the arts between the U.S. and countries of the former Soviet Union. She has also been a recipient of a Fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts.
Following the artist’s 2016 “Windows” exhibition, these new mixed media collages continue to draw upon her digitally manipulated photographs of urban architecture. In this series, the resulting images are pigment-printed on linen, cut apart, and re-assembled to create collages on canvas substrates. Several works combine collage with hand-quilted silk images to form a double canvas. in addition to the original artworks, a series of limited edition prints on brushed metal is included in the exhibit, offering a surprising new take on the work.
