“BLACK AND WHITE AND RED/READ ALL OVER” Exhibition
Janet Borden
This event has ended.
Janet Borden, Inc. presents BLACK AND WHITE AND READ/RED ALL OVER, a madcap group exhibition.
Part of this season’s exploration of thematic approaches to collecting, BLACK AND WHITE AND READ/RED ALL OVER is about making connections that are visual or literary, humorous or intellectual.
This show is an odd assortment of black and white imagery, color images that read as black and white, and color saturated images in black, white and red. Plus photographic images that incorporate the printed word such as Jim Dow’s iconic MOTEL sign. Neil Winokur’s portrait of a Dalmation on a fire engine red background is the most literal of the bunch. Katy Grannan’s black and white portrait of a woman seated in a comfortable chair in a library is “read” all over. Jokes and puns and textural extensions make the works pop.
The witty combination of a variety of images makes for a vibrant and lively show.
