This event has ended.

The Drawing Center presents Olga Chernysheva: Vague Accent, a series of drawings the Moscow-based artist made during a month-long visit to New York in November 2015. This new work is a departure for the Chernysheva: although she has depicted the urban landscape throughout her career, her focus has been her home country. Vague Accent explores the relation between travel and attentiveness through a collection of ordinary scenes–-subway stations, museums, city streets–-overlaid with collaged texts by the artist. In her words, these works ‘‘show things that are already visible…things not asking to be looked at.’’

Olga Chernysheva (b.1962, Moscow) lives and works in Moscow. Her solo exhibitions include Olga Chernysheva at Pace London in 2015; Compossibilities at Kunsthalle Erfurt, Germany, in 2013; and In the Middle of Things at BAK in Utrecht, Netherlands, in 2011. She has participated in many international group exhibitions, including the 56th Venice Biennial, All the World’s Futures, curated
by Okwui Enwezor; the 6th Berlin Biennial in 2010; and Ostalgia at the New Museum in New York in 2011. She represented Russia at the Venice Biennale in 2001.
