This event has ended.

(a group exhibition in 3 parts)
Part I: Opening reception: Sunday, January 24rd from 6 - 8 pm.
Part II: Saturday, February 6th.
Part III: Saturday, February 20th.

Jane Kim presents “No Money No Honey,” a multi part exhibition exploring how survival and pleasure are enmeshed with economic realities. The exhibition includes works on paper, claymation video, sculpture, photography, painting and wall art. The show addresses general notions of being out of luck, particularly examining how money permeates through various societal structures and daily experiences. The term honey thus denotes the pleasures, both material and metaphysical, that are inherently associated with wealth. The show underlines how, in contemporary society, money is the means to honey. The specific questions raised are: in what way is our life shaped by capitalism, and are money and honey intrinsically linked in our society? The six week exhibition will present artists every two weeks on January 24, February 6, and February 20.

The opening presentation on Saturday, January 23rd will feature Colm Dillane and theMIND. Colm Dillane, known as his alias KidSuper, is an artist and streetwear designer. His work focuses on clothes, but his connections to the hip-hop community led to his latest project: an installation and claymation music video for the debut of Chicago volcalist theMIND (real name Zarif Wilder). Dillane’s sculpture visualizes the lyrics of theMIND’s “Mercury Rising,” a surrealist modern romance about two kids who, destined for greatness, escape and meet in the stars. Dillane will show his installation, a depiction of the streets of Wilder’s youth in Chicago and Philadelphia, made of cardboard, paint, fabric and found objects. The video’s characters are made out of clay and clothes, hand-made from the fabrics in Dillane’s KidSuper clothing line. There will be a projection in the gallery where the video (4:31 minutes) will play on loop.

theMIND’s debut album, “Summer Camp,” and song “Mercury Rising” will be released to the public in February, during the duration of “No Money No Honey”. The show launches Dillane and theMIND’s artistic collaboration.

Colm Dillane, born in 1991, is a NYC native and streetwear designer. Dillane is the founder of the clothing line KidSuper and opened up his first boutique in 2012 on 384 Broadway in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He has partnered with the underground rap scene in New York City, such as Beast Coast collective to create collections, as well as Converse for a handpainted sneaker. Most recently, his work was seen in Vogue June 2015. www.www.kidsuper.land

theMIND (Zarif Wilder) was born 1990 in Philadelphia and lives and works in Chicago. Wilder spent years working with a who’s who of Chicago’s finest as part of the production crew ThemPeople. theMIND is among the ‘Alternative R&B’ artists that have been gained attention over the past few years. He is more sonically related to British artists like Sampha, James Blake and Kwabs than his US peers dominating the pop charts. He describes his sound as ‘Rabbit Hole Music’, as something that his listeners can get lost in. “Summer Camp,” captures his childhood, and the vivid, fond memories of the innocence from a camp he and his sisters attended one summer in Philadelphia.

The second opening of “No Money No Honey” will present works by Sue Kwon, Vincent Katz, Peggy Preheim and Sally Webster on Saturday February 6 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
