This event has ended.

This exhibition attempts to share the artist’s experience that deals with societal rituals conjuring spirituality and release, carnal and passionate desires of the body. Both artist works converge memories of personal and collective performativity acts, dealing with their motherland cultures, Dominican Republic and Brazil. The mixed media exhibition is showing paintings, sculptures, objects, video and installation that were inspired by Santeria and Carnival, echoing the idea of the spiritual and political structures while manifesting metaphysical dichotomies that duels between real and surreal.

In this exhibit, the paranormal and the normality state of being conflicts the senses. These works provokes the viewer with objects full of colors that preserves their motherland cultural element, and free self-expression rhymes with primal human instincts. In the absence of light the pieces challenges the idea of time and disintegration of all that is permanent, though questioning the validity of such ritualistic events.

The artists duet are arriving from a journey of self-discovery through their experiences, the artifacts becomes an autobiographical confession, a transformational emotion, while constructing an identity. Camila Rocha and Jehdy Ann Vargas just accomplished their MFA in New York City and this exhibition is their first duo show.
