“Perhaps my art is not sophisticated. My work has nothing to do with digital gadgets and even less to do with digital media. I have always been able to draw what I see; what I think. You may think that my work is conceptually naive. However, I enjoy freedom of expressing my interests and concerns without being bounded by my Master of Fine Arts degree.
I believe that Art should reflect humanity and willeventuallyreturnto”humanhands” after fashions and designs. Once I drew a piece of wisdom in a fortune cookie that I found with Chinese takeout food several years ago.
The message was ‘You shake the world in a quiet way’. It has always stayed in my mind. I wonder if my art can shake this world in a quiet way. Can art be a form of prayer?”
Ayakoh Furukawa-Leonart (a.k.a. Ayakoh Furukawa) originally from Japan lives and works in New York. She holds both BFA and MFA degrees from Hunter College, the City University of New York.
