This event has ended.

JANET BORDEN, INC. presents DISPLAY, a construct of images that play with notions of exhibition and presentation.

Photography is uniquely suited to reproduce collections of objects, items, structures.

The optical qualities of the medium make disparate aggregations appear coherent, codified, and presentable. Planes are compressed to reasonable proportions, real and idealed images combine as one.

Jim Dow’s Nature Lab, RISD reveals a room of encyclopedic variety, Using his signature 8x10” camera and long exposures, Dow reveals a skeleton, an armadillo and stuffed birds inhabiting a room, where anornate drawing is being made, revealing levels of display. On a hand-painted photograph, Gerhard Richter adds color and tone to a bland office space. Robert Cumming’s photograph of his meticulously detailed sculpture presents a claustrophobic and hermetic world. Jan Groover once again displays her extraordinary mastery of planes and space.
The physics of lenses and the compositional distortion of the camera’s view are crucial in the creation of images that are new constructs of photographic records of the world at large.
