This event has ended.

Catlett is lauded as America’s pre-eminent female African American sculptor of the mid 20th century. Her subjects were African American women depicted as self-contained individuals, striving to grow and the core of the family unit. Potentially it is a narrow topic for a life’s body of work; yet like Jane Austen, she taps into a well of dialogue that is more significant than first thought.

As the first line in a Michael Brenson essay expresses “Elizabeth Catlett has been so steadfast in her commitment to making art that serves both her people and “the people”…..

It is with great pleasure that we present Stepping Out in celebration of her sculptural work, an exhibition which could not be more timely or inspirational in our current political and cultural environment.
