This event has ended.

J-COLLABO’s Jecoration group show continues its exploration of decorative expressions of Japanese art with its lectures, interviews and focus discussion.

This exhibition explores the relation between the history and concepts of the decorative expressions in Japan and the actual artworks of the New York based contemporary artists who inherited those expressions.

The exhibition, curated by Japanese painter Youki Ideguchi features his own work along with two dimensional works by Masaaki Sato, Tomokazu Matsuyama, Fumiko Toda, Tang Wei Hsu. The exhibition also features a selection of busts by the sculptor
Beñat Iglesias Lopez and a video installation by the filmmaker Pawel Wojtasik. Along with the exhibition, there will also be an illustrated lecture by Miyeko Murase Professor Emeritus at Columbia University and a discussion between artist Masaaki Sato and art consultant Sachi Shimoda examining the relevance and impact of Japanese decorative expression on western contemporary art and the global aesthetic.

Beyond it’s examination of Japanese decorative aesthetic and it’s influence on western contemporary art, Jecoration provides a glimpse into the emerging trends and new directions in Japanese and Asian contemporary art.
