This event has ended.

The Bronx River Art Center invites you to attend the opening reception for The Sculpture of Food. This is the second of an extensive two-year production of ten exhibitions that will run through 2016, collectively called Food Systems, Surroundings & Sensibilities.

The Sculpture of Food looks at what food is as a material, how it is something experienced with the senses, at the same time that it communicates a wealth of cultural meaning. The materials chosen by each artist to construct the works, whether they be stone, fur, paper or candy, create significance that could contradict or add to the cultural weight that belongs to an everyday package of candy or a bloody side of beef. Additionally many artists in the exhibition are thinking about food as an important social issue and using food as an agent of change, specifically in the Bronx.

Curated by Karine Duteil, the exhibition will feature the work of: SPURSE, Anna Adler, Robin Antar, Hannes Bend, Esperanza Cortés, Rachel Major, and Colin McMullan d/b/a Emcee C.M., Master of None.
