Robert Kushner “New Monoprints”
Pace Prints Gallery
This event has ended.
Pace Prints presents an exhibition of new monoprints by Robert Kushner at its 32 East 57th Street gallery.
In his newest body of work, Kushner uses line and varying textures, screen printing and collage to create images with an overall floral motif. Lush pattern, metallic gold, sheet music, and newspaper clippings create the foundation for images reflecting an Asian sensibility. By the use of contrasting textures, the artist builds tension between the natural and the man-made.
A pioneer of the Pattern and Decoration Movement in the 1970s, Robert Kushner continues to address conceptual issues around the decorative arts. The work references textiles, Japanese screens, and modernist painting. In his newest body of work, Kushner appropriates boldly patterned papers, 18th and 19th century engravings, and other paper ephemera to create wholly unique collages for these lyrical monoprints.
