This event has ended.

Agora Gallery will feature the original work of NYC-based Limerick artist Kevin Cross in The Verve of Abstraction.

Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

Local New York City artist Kevin Cross employs acrylic, oil sticks, and charcoal in his revealing experimentations with materials. Cross intuitively builds layers of color on his surface and then decisively scrapes at the outermost shell of paint with a squeegee, pulling back the curtain to divulge the internal tectonics of his medium. Recently, the artist has been particularly compelled to broach the topic of depression in his work, applying a dark or cool palette as a manifestation of the subconscious’s deepest recesses, while using abstract geometries to afford protection from total self-exposure. “My work is essentially about what lies beneath the surface, the subtext, and what exists between the cracks.”

Kevin Cross was born and raised in Limerick, Ireland. He was inspired to paint when he moved to San Francisco, and would later move to New York to study painting at both Hunter College and The New School. Cross describes himself as a sponge, soaking up his surroundings. In this way, he was deeply influenced by the city’s abstract art scene, inspiring him to explore the “unseen and unsaid” of artistic expression.
