RL Arts presents The Bull Run, an exhibition of new works by California-based artist John Duron.

John Duron is a Mexican American artist whose career spans over 40 years. His critically acclaimed work in graphite, patinas, oil, pastels, enhanced photography and mixed media, reflect his life experiences, interpreted with his personal blend of expressionism and impressionism.

Duron’s new series, The Bull Run, which includes paintings in oil on canvas as well as mixed media works demonstrating Duron’s masterful technique and skill with tones and textures, evokes “an exciting journey that stretches from California to New York,” says the artist. These exquisite never-before-seen works, express Duron’s experiences, his strength, his travels and recent life observations.

“My works are expressions of my feelings, thoughts and inspiration. The Bull Run is about power, beauty and confidence,” Duron says. “I have traveled to New York City numerous times and it is a city that I am truly infatuated with. New York City, and life in general, command confidence, strength and commitment. In Spanish culture the bull represents that strength and confidence. It is a beautiful and powerful animal. New York is constantly changing with its incredible energy and excitement. It’s a turn-on.”

John Duron is known for his series titled Beverly Hills Woman, The Pueblo Series, his Patina Collection, The Cuban Collection – Los Colores de Havana, Cuban Blue and Cuban Black & White. After studying art at the University of Salamanca, Spain, he relocated to Florence, Italy to study the process of serigraphs, lithographs, and etching monotype under the instruction of Ruth Weisberg, art director at the University of Southern California. He continued his studies in printmaking under the direction of artist Henry Klein. In recent years, Duron has studied and worked with Dan Freeman, master printer for such artists as Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg. Duron has had two successful shows in Havana, Cuba, in 1996 and 2012, making him the first American artist to do so in over 40 years. A book titled “Los Colores de Havana,” which includes his enhanced photography of Cuba is currently on display at Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana in Havana, Cuba.
