Morgan Lehman Gallery presents Aaron Wexler’s second solo exhibition with the gallery titled The Basket Looked Like An Ocean, And I Was Just Throwing Rocks In It. Works in the exhibition continue Wexler’s unique approach to combining painting, collage, and printmaking media.

Utilizing source materials ranging from found photographs of jungle gyms to Audubon illustrations, Wexler creates an intricate visual architecture that entangles layers of collaged hand painted paper, digital prints, and pages taken from industrial design books. Reciprocally concealing and revealing, the intersection of rigid lines provide a latticework for the organic forms to flow in and out of view. Shape, line, color, and pattern play within this structure, manipulating and shifting in the positive and negative spaces. With a color palette that ranges from neutral to vivid, Wexler weaves together botanical and geometric shapes as a poetic response to the visual potential found in nature.
