This event has ended.

P339 begins the fall season with ‘Being Is Good Enough’, a collection of photographs by South Korean artists Hai Young Kim and Do Hyung Kim.

Hai Young Kim was born into dire poverty, child abuse, and with a severe spinal disorder. Overcoming all odds, she is now an international social worker who travels all over Africa. She attributes her healing to the African people and land, having spent 14 years in the desert of Botswana where she rebuilt an abandoned school and taught disadvantaged children. Through this experience she has deepened her appreciation and understanding of life. She has published two books on her story, ‘You Will Meet Big Paul Someday’, and ‘ I Am Glad That The Morning Is Coming’.

Do Hyung Kim’s photography often represents the lives of the poor, where he finds the most warm hearted experiences in life. In 2013 he travelled with Hai Young Kim for three months visiting Kenya, Tanzania, and Botswana, capturing the lives and smiles of the local people. His past exhibitions include The 2009 ‘Exhibitions of 51 Photographers Who Represent Korea’, the 2010 ‘People Who Take Pictures of Korea’, both in Seoul, South Korea.

There will be a simultaneous exhibition and a discussion of Hai Young Kim’s books at the ICN Global Office on West 32nd Street in Manhattan from September 7 to September 12.
