This event has ended.

An exhibition of recent paintings by Nancy Beal will be on view at the Blue Mountain Gallery.

The show will include her signature flowered landscapes vivid with painterly energy and nature’s abundance. Also, still lifes of flowers in favorite ceramic pots sometimes with plates of fruit. Some still lifes are set in an outdoor context observed with an interest in light and color vibrations. In addition, Beal will show paintings that she did in Tuscany, many of them at the artist residence, Macina di San Cresci, where she was thrilled to experience long and distant vistas. These were painted en plein air among the vineyards and olive groves.

In reviewing the paintings at the 2008 Mohawk-Hudson Exhibition at the Albany Institute, Joel Shapiro wrote about artists’ awareness of their predecessors:

“Nancy Beal with impressionism and certain aspects of Fairfield Porter. Beal’s observations are particular, individual, and satisfying.”

A founding member of two galleries and a school, Beal has had residencies in the United States and Europe.

Ms. Beal has taught art in New York City and is the author, with Gloria Bley Miller, of the book The Art of Teaching Art to Children published by Farrar, Strauss and Giroux in 2001 which is in its 12th printing.
