Maria Chavez Echibition
The Kitchen
This event has ended.
Building on her continuing focus on chance and accident, Maria Chavez’s new site-specific installation Sound Bleed @ The Kitchen was developed around the sound leaking from The Kitchen’s ground floor performance space into the second floor exhibition space. Usually considered undesirable, this audio trait will be recorded on site and then remixed into an installation of sound and light. Curated by Matthew Lyons.
Chavez will be in residence on April 28 and 29, 12–6pm, remixing audio live in the space. The completed installation will be on view April 30–May 2, 12–7:30pm.
Maria Chavez: Sound Bleed @ The Kitchen is made possible with endowment support from Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust, annual grants from The Amphion Foundation, Inc., The Aaron Copland Fund for Music, and The Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation, and in part by public funds from New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. Additional support provided by a Foundation For Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant.
