“This series began with a gestural expression of a figure in space and was followed by a series, which metaphorically reflected on that image in varied permutations: modes of expression-color, touch, compositional emphasis.
These 9 canvases together form a matrix, which influence appeared in several more canvases.

Imagery of window panes continued to move me and I found myself considering not only the format but issues of distancing the figure from direct access to nature, of living in a world in which our experience is increasingly mediated mechanically and digitally.

I’ve been observing the world indirectly, through my car window and have increased the separation by photographing reflections from the car windows into the side mirrors. I further introduced manipulation of those images, which I then riffed on producing images, which veer close to full abstraction.

I have pushed further into reflections by photographing images of glass building reflections, which I intended to manipulate or riff off of; when I found the reflection of myself holding the camera, I added that to the image of the reflection. Hence, Reflection to the 3rd power.”
