This event has ended.

Rita Baragona has been painting from nature for her entire career. This work is the culmination of several years of wide open experimentation while still working in the canon of perceptual painting. Baragona’s most recent paintings and drawings explore the role her eye’s mind plays in forming her perception. The eye’s mind transforms impulses into mass, light into color, movement into form, and time into visual space. As she paints, her eyes traverse constantly changing configurations over time, while her mind coalesces these sensations into patterns of flower, tree, ocean, and the space which they inhabit. In the process of dealing with the eye’s mind, rhythmic flux is changing her perception. She is conscious of rhythmic flow as the eye’s mind pays attention to unexpected and felt moments. Baragona has become more sensitive to seeing change, particularly in her ocean paintings, which come closest to describing self-similar iterations. Her paintings are filled with luminous color energized by linear rhythmic notations. There is a sensual joy in finding harmony in impermanence. Everything is in flux out there, but is stilled by the eye’s mind.
Baragona has shown consistently over the last 30 years at the Bowery Gallery as well as venues all over the East coast such as Rider University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Washington Art Association, and the Dutot Museum. Selected group shows include Noyes Museum, NJ; Well Street Gallery, AK; Lyme Academy, CT; Tallahassee Gallery, FL; Bryn Mawr College, PA; and Allentown Museum, PA. As a member of Zeuxis she has shown in various venues across the US.
