This event has ended.

Amos Eno Gallery presents 20’s Something, a solo exhibition of a new body of work by Turkish-born American artist Tulu Bayar. The exhibition will feature twelve large-scale archival pigment prints on silk.

The work is created in collaboration with millenials as subjects and reveals the artist’s observations of social truths beyond the common critique. As a critical reflection, the work examines the transitionary nature of a generation from childhood to adulthood by revealing the social status and cultural identities of young Americans in their 20s. This ongoing body of work reveals the artist’s commitment to collaborating and exploring with millenials, questions about identity, creativity, and what it means to come of age in the 21st century.

Bayar employs a pseudo-documentary approach to her work, heightening subjective realities and enhancing their context. Each subject participates in the photographic scene by bringing belongings that symbolize their choice of activity. The scenes are staged and selected to best connect the environment to the individual and to their common story. In opposition to their reputation as obsessed by social media and unplugged from the real world, the subjects of these photographic portraits are seen in direct engagement with the viewer, their bold gestures declaring who they are and what they are doing here.

Bayar has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions at museums and galleries all across the US including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC as well as France, UK, Germany, Turkey, Denmark, and China. Her work is included in numerous private and public collections. She has received various grants from New York State Council on the Arts, Andy Warhol Foundation, Tenot Foundation in France and William Sackett Fellowship from Virginia Center for Creative Arts. Bayar currently teaches photography and multimedia courses as associate professor at Bucknell University.
