“The Writing on the Wall” Exhibition
The Painting Center
This event has ended.
The Painting Center announces the exhibition, The Writing on the Wall. Writing is a subversive activity, the marker of both the rise of civilization and its decadence. It is used to express, sell, persuade, calculate, entertain and understand. Visual art that incorporates writing engages the viewer on multiple fronts, where letters, numerals or scribbles bridge the divide between mark making and narrative meaning. This exhibition presents a diverse group of artists exploring the meaning and uses of text in a variety of media, and features a full-color catalog with an essay written by the artist Karen Schiff. Curated by member artists Susan Post, Colleen Randall and Patricia Spergel.
